GVTA Bargaining Objectives

POST AND FILL PROVISIONS

  1. Negotiate improvements to post and fill, layoff and recall and transfer processes *
    1. Provide access to parts of postings for part-time teachers within school
    2. Eliminate split shift positions
    3. Allow teachers in single or multiple assignments totaling 0.7 FTE or greater to participate in mobility rounds
    4. Ensure positions containing teacher-librarian, counseling, elementary or middle school assignments are not subject to internal reassignment
    5. Incorporate post and fill agreement (and other such agreements) in CA
  1. Increase frequency of seniority calculations

ABORIGINAL EQUITY PROVISIONS

  1. Negotiate an aboriginal equity agreement

HEALTH & SAFETY PROVISIONS

  1. Improve health and safety provisions   - District Health & Safety Committee
  2. Improve health and safety provisions (defined standards, etc.) – School Based H & S

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & IN-SERVICE & AUTONOMY

  1. Provide release time for all in-service whether required or voluntary                          
  2. Ensure District release time is used for in-service and not professional development
  3. Improve school based Pro-D committee language (define membership, function)
  4. Negotiate joint PD planning process re: expenditures in areas such as special ed, learning initiatives and learning enhancement

MEETINGS

  1. Negotiate limits on the duration and frequency of staff meetings
  2. Negotiate limits on the duration and frequency of all required meetings
  3. Negotiate limits on the duration and frequency of “Meet the Teacher” events/evenings
  4. Negotiate limits on duration and frequency of formal parent/teacher interviews
  5. Provide release time for meetings for school and district committees
  6. Provide compensation for required school meetings outside of teacher’s regular instructional time (IEP, Psych, school based team, etc)

EXPLORATORY TEACHERS

  1. Seek improvements for Exploratory teachers
    1. Access to full time work for exploratory and prep teachers
    2. Exploratory work scheduled on full days

MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

  1. Limit time in files for letters of direction and seek automatic removal
  2. Improve teachers’ and GVTA’s access to information
  3. Provide a “banked time plan” for accumulated release time
  4. Prorate duties for part-time teachers
  5. Provide release time for mandatory classroom/school moves
  6. Limit use of teachers’ personal information (email, home address, etc.)
  7. Provide access to free or subsidized health/fitness club membership
